Fatima is a very well-rounded individual as well. The field hockey player is a talented singer who has sang in different sporting events. During the closing of the 2001 Men’s World Cup Hockey Qualifier in Edinburgh, she sang the theme song for the International Hockey Federation’s International Year of the Youth. That’s not all, because Fatima has also achieved a Masters Degree in Law in 2006. Fatima has also done presentations for national TV stations.

Fatima has the potential to succeed in the world of poker. She is aiming to succeed in the future in a totally different field and hopefully win major tournaments along the way. Watch out for Fatima Moreira De Melo.

Ruben instantly won his first tournament warmup which was the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up, which was held in May 2008. He beat all competitors and came out on top with a prize of $112,945. After a few months, Ruben moved on to compete in his second tournament which was the PokerStars Sunday Million. He captured 4th place and came home with a prize of $77,301. In September 2008, Ruben shone again as he won the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker $320 No-Limit Hold’em. He gathered a huge amount of $135,687. Ruben continued to play excellent poker in 2009. He participated in the PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker $3,150 No Limit Hold’em and made a great 6th place finish. He also earned an amount of $126,000. In June of the same year, Ruben participated in the World Poker Tour Spanish Championship €5,000 Main Event. He finished 11th place and won $18,737, Ruben had yet another taste of victory when he participated in the World Poker Tour Championship €400 No Limit Hold’em. He made an amazing 1st place run and won $16,729.

Ruben is extremely happy to have made poker a professional career. For the Team PokerStars player, nothing could be better that doing what you love and making a living from it.

Lex’s first major tournament highlight was at the European Poker Tour Deauville €4,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event which was held in February 2006. He was able to finish 20th place and claimed a monetary prize of $10,536. In the following year, Lex played in the World Poker Tour Mandalay Bay Poker Championships which was held in June 2007. He showed another great performance and achieved 20th place. He also received an amount of $13,115. On the same month, Lex had his first experience of the World Series of Poker tournament, which was one of the most famous annual competitions in poker. He played in the $5,000 Pot Limit Hold’em event and won $14,690. In November of that year, Lex played in the 2007 Belgian Poker Championships and improved to an 18th place finish. He brought home $14,690. In the following year, Lex joined the 2008 World Series of Poker $10,000 Heads-Up No Limit Hold’em and finished at 48th place. In the event, he won $14,438. In 2009, Lex returned to the European Poker Tour which was held in April and competed in the San Remo €5,000 No Limit Hold’em. He finished 89th and won an amount of $10,477. On the following month, Lex participated in the 2009 World Series of Poker $40,000 No Limit Hold’em event and made his strongest finish of 7th place. He also earned his largest amount in major tournaments, which is $277,939.

In 2008, Joep participated in his first major tournament which was the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up  held in October. He was able to make a great performance and won a satisfying amount of $23,250. In the following year, Joep played in one of the most prestigious tournaments which was the European Poker Tour Deauville. He competed in the €5,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event and secured a 34th place finish. He managed to earn $14,321. Joep played in another tournament of the same month which was the Dom Classics. He competed in the €300 Limit Hold’em event and secured a 2nd place finish. He collected $10,066 in that event. Joep played in a third tournament which was the PokerStars Sunday 500. He placed 2nd place once again and obtained a generous amount of $69,234. After a couple of months, Joep played in his first World Series of Poker tournament. He competed in the $1,500 Limit Hold’em Shootout. He finished the tournament in 7th place and won $18,136.

Aside from playing poker, Joep is a simple guy who has great passion for football. He loves watching football matches and considers it very exciting. Joep also loves to write about poker. In fact he writes poker-related articles for different websites. Joep continues to play poker in an effort to improve his game more and to succeed and win one of the most desirable trophies which is the World Series of Poker bracelet.

Back in his hometown in Holland, Pieter has already surprised everyone by winning the Poker Champion of Holland which was televised locally in 2008. After this, Pieter moved on to participate in major tournaments. It is in the European Poker Tour that Pieter had hist best game of his career. He was able to bring out his best and outlasted a total of 935 players in the 2009 tournament. Pieter made his major debut in the European Poker Tour €10,000 Monte Carlo Grand Final. Pieter wasted no time and displayed a magnificent effort and came out on top. He won an outstanding amount of $3,024,167. It was a very memorable moment for Pieter as he came back from the last position to win it all. He instantly established himself as one of the most promising players in the world of poker. After a month, Pieter participated in his next major competition which was the 2009 World Series of Poker $1,500 No Limit Hold’em, He was able to finish 270th and earned $2,668. He competed in another event of the tournament which was the $2,000 No Limit Hold’em event. He was able to finish 76th and gathered a prize of $6,262.

Peter continues to play and enjoy the game of poker. Pieter is a truly talented poker player and continues to show charisma in and out of the poker room.

In his first WSOP tournament in 2006, he managed to take home a total earnings of $33,197. But after just a month, he scored his first win in the Bodensee Poker Championship No Limit Hold’em Main event where he took home $30,315 total cash win. He also cashed in a lot of small earnings in various European tournaments that he has joined in the following year such as the 2005 Austrian Classics, 2008 CAPT Bregenz Open, 2008 CAPT Salzburg Open and very recently, the 2009 Late Night Poker at Cardiff. He has appeared in four World Series of Poker events, where he got his first bracelet. He scored his first bracelet in the 2008 WSOP $3,000 H.O.R.S.E event where he earned a total of $298,253 cash wins. It was a such a remarkable experience for Jens besting over 414 opponents including some of the top poker players in the world. With that record under his name, surely we can expect a lot more victory from this pro player who’s determination in learning more about the game certainly paid well for him.

She began playing professionally in 1984. She won her first Golden Nugget tournament in the Seven Card Stud event taking home a total prize of $74,000. During that time, it was considered to be the highest win any woman has ever done in the history of poker. When Cyndy moved to Atlantic City after her divorce, she would always participate in local games traveling only to Las Vegas to play in World Series of Poker. She won her first bracelet in the 2004 World Series of Poker Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo Event taking home a total earnings of $135,900. She was one of the three women who won a bracelet in that year’s WSOP tournament securing for herself a spot in the World Poker Tour Ladies Night 2. In tournaments, Cyndy is often hailed as that “good-looking blondie who is always smiling” but despite that bubbly facade she could be a very dangerous poker player.

He has already scored numerous great success, particularly in the 2000 Winnin O The green Tournament $300 Limit Hold’em where he took home $28,240 and in the 2006 LA Poker Classic $300 Limit Hold’em event where he took another $51,789 earnings. He was also able to score a second victory in the LA Poker Classic but this time in the Omaha High-Low Eight or Better event, snagging a total of $58,607 cash win. He has participated in various live tournaments such as the 2007 California State Poker Championship, 2008 Bellagio Cup IV and 2009 Five Star World Poker Classic among others. He has participated in 7 World Series of Poker events and 3 World Poker Tour events since he started his career in poker. Clearly, this is not the last that we will hear of Jose Luis Velador as he has a bright future waiting ahead of him. He just has to keep playing his cards well and maintain the same aggressiveness he has showed ever since he started making poker his full-time career.

Jett, who acquired his fitting nickname Chip long before his poker-playing days, began in the business of poker long before he was actually playing the game. Chip Jett started out as a dealer, being the one who oversees games and the one who deals the cards to the players. He began this when he was living in Arizona, and it was through this that he started learning the ins and outs of the game of poker. He eventually picked up the techniques that were being used by the players that he dealt cards to, until he was ready to use these techniques himself. He played in the casino he worked in for six years and honed his poker-playing skills there.

He entered the tournament scene in 2000, beginning with state poker championships in California and in Iowa. It was in the following year, however, in 2001, that he made waves in the professional poker tournament world when he reached a number of final tables at the LA Poker Classic tournament. It was in 2003 that he made his first six-figure win, when he won the World Poker Tour’s Jack Binion World Poker Open and took home $129,589. Later that same year, he finished second in the WPT PartyPoker Million II tournament, and he took home over $175,000 for that tournament. He has joined many tournaments after that, including the World Series of Poker, the United States Poker Championship, and other WPT-hosted events. As of now he has earned more than $2 million from his winnings in these tournaments. With eight first-place finishes under his belt, and that much money in his bank, he is considered to be one of the poker greats of the present, and is feared in the poker tables by those who recognize him.

Niki Jedlicka began playing poker in 2006, a year before he got nominated for the EPAs, but he did not play seriously at once. He began playing as a past time, a way to spend time with family and friends. As he got better in the game, though, his interest in poker increased, and he began playing seriously when he started entering in online poker games. It was here that he found his initial success, building a significant bankroll by playing his way through. He used the name KaiBuxxe, and he became popular under this name, garnering attention when he would play in pot-limit omaha games. He improved his games by playing it big and taking risks, even taking on known poker champions and succeeding in winning these games.

He made a move from the online poker scene to the live poker tournaments later that same year. Alessio Isaia began playing poker in the years following the poker boom that Chris Moneymaker had caused in the world of gambling in general. Isaia was inspired by watching poker games on television, and so he began learning about the game. He then put his newfound skills to the test by participating in various online poker games that were being offered, and he used his winnings there to participate in his first tournament. Like most poker players who were beginning in the field, he used these games as an opportunity to build up his bankroll, and soon he began playing in live tournament circuits.

His first experience of the professional tournament scene was not a breakthrough as is the case with some other poker players. He joined the European Poker Tour Grand Final in 2007, and he ended up finishing at the twenty-third place, only taking home $682. This was, however, followed by remarkable wins for that same year. He joined the Barcelona Open hosted by the EPT, and he made his first major money win, taking home $32,897 for placing sixteenth at their No Limit Hold’Em Championship. He had another big win at the No Limit Hold’em Tournament, where he won first place and took home $25,007. His biggest win to date is in the World Poker Tour season seven, where he joined in the Bellagio Cup and he won second and $132,035. Today he has made more than $470,000, and he ranks tenth in the Italy All Time Money List. Alessio Isaia sure is one promising poker player.

The new millenium brought Homam to the professional poker tournament scene, where she had a very good starting experience when she broke into e professional world of poker. She won the European Hold’Em Championship Pot Limit Hold’Em event, taking home with her $34,588. She has joined other tournaments ever since, such as the Binions Poker Classic and the Master Classics of Poker. Her biggest win to date, though, came recently, in 2008. She joined PartyPoker.com’s Womens World Open, and she won first place, taking home $50,000 for that event. As of now, she has won a total of over $100,000, and she continues to join tournaments to this day, playing for Full Tilt Pros.

Rob Hollink started out like some of the other professional poker players in the world of poker today – he was an athlete. He participated in several sports, such as soccer, basketball, and tennis. Unfortunately, on his way to a professional career, he incurred several injuries that would prevent him from further pursuing a career in any of these sports, so he had to find a new niche. Poker provided a good alternative for him, since he was extremely competitive, and he was knowledgeable in economics and mathematics, which worked to his advantage. He started playing in his home country, The Netherlands, and he found success in playing at the local casinos in his area.

He turned to the tournaments when he was thirty-nine years old and won his first tournament ever. This was at the Pot Limit Omaha event of the Euro Finals of Poker, where he won first prize and took home $82,279. From that point on he continued to join various poker tournaments. He has joined in the three most popular tournaments in the world of poker – the World Series of Poker, where he won a bracelet and twenty money finishes; in the World Poker Tour, where he has had two money wins and one final table; and in the European Poker Tour, which he has won once, has participated in final table once, and in which he has had three money wins. To this day, he has made almost $3 million from the tournaments he has joined. His biggest win so far is the at the European Poker Tour in Monte Carlo, where he won the No Limit Hold’Em event and took home $851,903. As mentioned earlier, this man started his life at 40 with a bang and a lot of cash.

Sebastien also created an impressive reputation in the clubs as well. He used to play for CS Bourgoin-Jallieu in France. In 2004, Sebastien traveled to the UK and played for the Sale Sharks in the Guinness Premiership. This was a memorable time in Sebastien’s career, since he was well accepted and loved by the fans. He earned the nickname “Seabass”. Soon, Sebastien traveled back to France in 2009 and played for Racing Metro. Other teams have high respect for the Frenchman because of his excellent skills on the pitch. His aggressive attitude is one of his strengths, and continues to practice it in the world of poker.

Sebastian has easily adapted to poker and exercises his skills as much as he can. He continues to improve his game and has participated in online poker games. With sufficient experience in playing poker, he has had some notable moments in online tournaments. This time, Sebastien looks forward to take his game to the next level by participating in live tournaments. Sebastien is positive and knows that abundant opportunities lay ahead, and success is just around the corner.

Bertrand developed a desire for the game since it allowed him to showcase his talent in strategic gaming. After playing poker for quite some time, he began to succeed playing online. He often played at the PokerStars website and quickly became of one its highest earners. Soon, Bertrand engaged in live tournaments and continued to succeed. In 2007, Bertrand played in the European Poker Tour in Copenhagen and made a strong 2nd place finish. He managed to seize $399,953. After the tournament, Bertrand played in the World Series of Poker $2,500 No Limit Holdem and reached the final table. He attained 9th place and seized $29,124 Bertrand continued to impress and finally astonished everyone in the 2008 PokerStars Carribean Adventure. He gave a tremendous performance that overcame 1,013 participants and rewarded him an incredible $2,000,000. Bertrand’s success continued to grow when he joined the 2008 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker $25,000 No Limit Holdem Heads-up event. He ended up 2nd place with an amount of $320,000. Bertrand continued to dominate by winning $1,411,015 in the World Poker Tour Festa al Lago, $433,500 in the PCA High Roller event, $232,730 in the World Championship of Poker $530 1 rebuy 1 add-on No Limit Holdem event, and $263,323 in the World Championship of Poker $215 No Limit Holdem event. Bertrand is absolutely one of the mos successful poker players in the world.

Vanessa’s interest in poker grew while she studied at Duke University. Somewhere along her studies, she became fascinated with Game Theory since she was fond of games. The subject taught essential mathematical principles that were useful in decision-making. Vanessa saw this as her passion, which would later introduce her to poker. In no time, Vanessa discovered the game and instantly fell in love with it. She decided that a professional poker career would be best. Vanessa started to participate in live poker tournaments. In 2005, she played in the live tournament circuit and did not disappoint at all. Her natural inclination to games allowed her to improve her game later on. In 2006, Vanessa joined the World Poker Tour and was able to reach the final table of the tournament. She was fortunate to snatch a 7th place and walked away with $250,000. In 2007, Vanessa finished strong in the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker. She secured 2nd place and brought home an amazing $700,000. In 2008, Vanessa joined the World Series of Poker and was also able to reach the final table of the $5,000 Shorthanded Holdem event. She finished 8th place in the event. Finally, Vanessa got her break when she won the preliminary event at the World Poker Tour Borgata Open. She was able to go home with $285,450. Vanessa continued to succeed in 2009. She finished 2nd place in the NBC National Heads-up Poker Championship, and obtained $250,000. Her biggest win came when she played in the European Poker Tour Grand Final €25,000 High roller Event where she won €720,000. Her success has made her one of the finest female Poker players in the world.

Aside from being one of the best tennis players of all time and winning 49 major titles, Boris is extremely passionate about the world of poker. After he retired from professional tennis, Boris often played poker and gained sufficient experience within a few years. In no time, he was able to establish himself in the world of poker, not because of his reputation for being one of the greatest tennis players in the world, but for his exceptional talent and skill in the game. Boris participated in  Season 4 PokerStars European Poker Tour Grand Final which was held in Monte Carlo. Boris amused a lot of fans by finishing 7th place. Boris competed in the €500 No Limit Holdem event, and was able to end up with $18,672. Boris may not have as much experience in the game as most of the other poker greats do, but he is quickly drawing much attention and respect. Boris continues to practice his passion in poker by competing in online and live tournaments as well. Just like in tennis, his motivation in playing poker is enormously great.

Boris is not just a great tennis player, but a competitive professional poker as well. He is an inspiration to everyone who wants to follow their dreams.

Due to his passion and motivation, Sebastian quickly absorbed the game and gave another shot at online poker. Soon, Sebastian joined the 2007 World Championship of Online Poker and surprised everyone by finishing 2nd place. He was able to win $260,184 in the online tournament. Sebastian instantly established himself in the world of poker, and continued to play in online tournaments. Later, he tried his luck in Season 3 European Poker Tour in Dortmund. He was able to reach the final table of the tournament and ended up with $288,283. Then, his best moment arrived when he participated in Season 5 European Poker Tour in Barcelona. Sebastian was able to outlast 619 players and won an enormous amount of $1,941,401. He continued to draw cashouts in the European Poker Tour in Prague, as well as the Grand Final which was held in Monte Carlo. To this date, Sebastian is considered one of the top earners of the European Poker Tour of all time. Sebastian’s success was not limited to the European Poker Tour and continued to impress at the World Series of Poker. He was able to win the gold bracelet in 2008, and the World Series of Poker $5,000 World Championships Seven-card Stud Hi Lo event. He ended up with $328,762 in the tournament.

The game begins as your typical Guts game would – it begins with the placing of the antes. Each player participating is then dealt three cards each, and they go through a declaration round where they declare whether they are in or they are out. As you have probably noticed, this declaration round is standard in Guts games. Anyway, those who are in are dealt two additional cards, so that each player now has five cards; all these cards are to be used to form their hand, and so this game makes use of the regular poker hands that we know of. A round of betting then takes place, beginning with the player to the dealer’s immediate left, and then the showdown happens, where the players compare to see who has the best hand. The one with the highest hand wins the pot, and those who declared in and lost the round have to match the pot for the next round of the game. As with the other Guts games with pot matching, the game does not come to an end until only one person declares in. Still, while other games with that system could take forever to finish, the Three To Five is rather quick to end because the hands that need to be formed are five-card hands, which tend to be more difficult for the players. Try it out and you’ll be ready for the real poker games in no time.

A very good example of this is the game of Indian Poker. This is a very simple variation of Guts, and it is so simple that it could pass off as a practical joke that you can play on a group. The main idea in Indian Poker is simple: the player with the highest card wins the game. The game begins with the antes being placed in the pot. Each player is then dealt a single card by the dealer. They do not get to see these cards; instead, their cards are placed face-up on their foreheads, so that everyone else sees the cards of others but they do not get to see their own cards. The players get a look at the other players’ cards, and they try to see if they can outdo these cards; a declaration stage takes place, where each of the players must indicate whether they are in or out. If there is more than one player in, then these players go through a throw down, where they take the cards from their forehead and find out who has the higher card; the one with the highest card takes the pot, and the rest of the players who were in will place the same amount as the pot when they lost in the next pot. The game goes on until only one player calls in and takes the whole pot.

If you took away the pot money and the betting, then this could very well be just another simple, fun game you can introduce in a children’s party, or it could be a practical joke you can play on your friends. But if you are to play this as a serious game, then take note that you should be skilled in bluffing in order to be able to pull this off effectively, as it is very simple and you risk to lose a lot with this kind of game.

Anyway, let’s go back to the game: the players go through a round of declaration, and those who decide to play run the risk of paying up if they lose; we will get to that later on. Those who decided to play and stay in will then draw as many cards as they want, unless there is a modification that says there is a limit to the number of cards that a player can draw. The players then go through a round of betting. A showdown takes place, and the player with the best hand takes the pot. Those who lost have to place money in the pot, and this amount is the amount that was in the pot when they lost. This raises the stakes pretty quickly, so it is best to start betting in this game really low. The game is repeated until only one person declares in, and this person takes home the pot. That is the only time the game ends. It can be lengthy or quick depending on the players and the cards that they get, and so make sure you have enough time to spare when trying this out.

The game begins with the players placing their antes. The antes for the 357 are higher than the antes placed for other Guts games, because there are no betting rounds in the 357. After these antes are placed, the players are dealt three cards initially, and then they have to declare whether or not they’re in. Those who are out stay out for the rest of this leg of the game, except if the player next to them declares in; then they have the choice of changing their mind before the next move takes place. Players who are in then exchange their hands with the other players who are in, being careful not to show these cards to those who are out; the losers pay the winner directly with the same amount as the money in the pot. The players are then dealt two more cards, and then another declaration round takes place, with the rules for the first round followed as well. Two more cards are dealt after the winner for the second round is paid; this time, the players show their cards to the table to determine who wins, and the losers pay the winner the same amount as the pot. Then the game starts over, beginning with three cards.

Of course, this game is not just that simple. For starters, a person only wins the pot when he wins five consecutive legs of the game, which is only won when he is the only one left standing in and the rest have opted out. Then there is the element of the wild cards, which is where the name of the game was derived. For the first round the number 3 is considered a wild card; for the second round, the 3s are no longer wild and are replaced by the 5s; and for the final round of the game, the 5s are replaced by the 7s as the wild cards of the game. This game takes a long time to play but is very interesting, and so you should try it if you have the time.

Each player is initially dealt four cards for the game. As with the other Guts games, this is done after the antes have been placed in the pot. Then a declaration round takes place, where players decide whether they are in or they are out; those who are out no longer get the cards that those who are in will be receiving. Those who are in will place their bets, and then they will be dealt three more cards. The players then have to declare whether they are playing for a high hand, a low hand, or both – as you can see, this is a high-low variation of Guts. What follows next is that the showdown takes place. They have to make the best five-card hand that they can, depending on what they declared they would play, in order to win their fair share of the pot. A player playing Four Three, then, has to make himself familiar with the different poker hands that are used in poker games in order to be able to keep up with their opponents.

As mentioned, the players may decide to add an extra betting round, which would make this similar to certain poker variants. This additional betting round may be added after the additional three cards are dealt to the players. Try it out, and you could just take the leap to poker afterwards very easily.

Take for instance this chain: We have the basic game of Guts, where players are dealt two cards. This evolved to the Monte Carlo, wherein players are dealt three cards instead of two, and so four more hands were made possible to achieve. This eventually evolved to the Consecutive Guts, where players are dealt five cards but have to form a hand with only three cards, like the Monte Carlo, except the concept of wild cards has been introduced already. Now comes another evolution of the game: the Alternating Guts.

The Alternating Guts is played just like the Consecutive Guts. Each player is dealt five cards, and they have to make the best three-card hand that they can out of the five cards that they are dealt. A player may also use wild cards in Alternating Guts. Of course, the difference lies in what cards are considering wild cards. In Consecutive Guts, the name suggests that consecutive numbers may be used as the wild cards; the same follows with Alternating Guts, where the name suggests a person may use alternating numbers as their wild cards. These alternating numbers are cards that are once removed from one another. For instance, you have a hand of 3-5-J-J-8. The cards 3 and 5 are once removed from each other, and so you can use them as a wild card to create a jack-high three of a kind. Because getting alternating cards happens more often than getting consecutive cards, this really puts a spin to the game by giving every player an advantage. This is why, as in Consecutive Guts, the only hands allowed to be played here are the high cards, the pairs, and the three of a kind combinations.

There is a variation of Guts, known as Consecutive Guts, which is very interesting to play. The game is played like your basic game of Guts – the players are dealt cards at the beginning of the game, and they decide whether they are in or out before placing bets and getting to the showdown. However, players are dealt five cards instead of three for this game, and while their goal remains to be making the highest hand out of the cards that they have, they only get to make a three-card hand, similar to that of the Monte Carlo and the Two and One.

A very good twist is added to the game, though: If a player ends up with two consecutive cards in his hand, then he can use those cards together as a wild card. To illustrate: let’s say you have a hand comprised of a 5-6-A-A-9. Because the 5 and the 6 are consecutive numbers, you can use them as a wild card together, so you will end up playing a hand with four cards, but the 5 and 6 will be considered as one card – in this case, you declare it to be an ace, so that you have a three of a kind. Because the chances of a player getting a pair of consecutive cards are quite high, this should really change up the dynamic of the game, making it easier for the players to come up with higher hands to beat their opponents.

There is just a thing though: a player can only play a high card, a pair, or a three of a kind for this variation of Guts. This is an added challenge, because it would be easier to come up with straights if this system were observed. Try it out for you to determine whether or not it is easier for you. One thing is certain: this certainly adds to the excitement that the game brings.

Card games are no exception to the rule. There are many things that a person can do to a basic card game to make it as exciting as ever, if not more. Take for example the basic Guts game. Because the game is so simple, people have developed different varieties to spice things up a bit. One of these varieties is the Monte Carlo, wherein instead of using two cards, the players use three cards each. The Monte Carlo is also known as the three-card Guts, and as the name suggests, instead of being dealt two cards, as in the case of the basic game, the players are dealt three cards each. Given that, the order of the hands from lowest to highest would be as follows:

The high card would be the lowest;

The pair would come next;

The straight would be third;

The flush would follow;

The three of a kind would be fifth;

And finally, the straight flush would be the highest hand.

Step 2- Each player is instructed to choose one card from the three dealt to them. This card will be turned to face up and shown to all the players. The turning of cards is done simultaneously by all players. These cards are considered each player’s individual wild card, and if they have any other cards of the same rank in their hands then those cards will be known as wild cards as well.

Step 3- The first round of betting begins. The first player to act on the betting is the one seated to the dealer’s left.

Step 4- After the first round of betting, the dealer distributes one more card to each player. This card is dealt facing up. It is worth reiterating that if the same face up card appears, then this will also be considered a wild card. This time, as another betting round is opened, the first person to act is the player who has the highest face up card. This step is repeated twice more, until all the players have six cards each, along with four rounds of betting.

Step 5- The seventh and final card is distributed by the dealer. This card is dealt facing down, and is also followed by a round of betting. It will be initiated by the same player who started out the previous betting round. Showdown follows, and the highest hand wins.

The game makes use of your standard fifty-two card deck, and the players are dealt either five or six cards. A separate starter card is laid down in the middle as the start of the crib if there are three players; otherwise, the crib begins when the players pick the cards they want to discard. After the first round of betting, players are then given the chance to replace the cards they want to get rid of from the cards in the deck. The number of discarded cards must match with that of drawn cards. After the exchange of cards has been completed, the final betting round ensues. In the showdown, players must show their cards. Player with the best five-card hand wins the pot. Some of the most common variation of draw poker games are five-card draw, California lowball, Gardena jackpots and Badugi.

Again, players may opt to use the same cards to form their high and low hand. Straights and flushes does not have any effect on the value of any low hand and remember, a hand with a card higher than 8 does not qualify for a low hand, it should always be lower than eight unless the management has specified rules about it.

Seven-card stud usually begins with players putting an ante to make up the pot. Antes are generally forced bets players must place as opposed to Hold’em blinds. Each player will be then dealt with three cards, two of which are facing down while the other one is facing up. This is because the chances are you might only have your pair of aces to work with, and that is not a very reliable hand in this game of Omaha, good as it is. Third, if you’ve got a good hand, don’t be afraid to raise. It is, after all, a limit game, and you won’t end up losing that much if your opponent sees that he is betting more than his hand is truly worth as compared with yours.

It’s all about discretion. In a limit game, you don’t have as much to lose as with the no-limit games, so make the most out of it in your next seven-card stud game.

The ancient times were notorious for their barbaric ways, and so it is only expected that something like boxing could have existed long ago. Like today’s boxers, the fighters of pygmachia at the time of ancient Greece practised on punching bags, and they had to wear protective gear on their hands to protect them from injury.

Of course, there is a more sensible explanation to the origin of this sport. It has been said that it came from Sparta, and as Spartans are known to be great warriors, it is a possible root of pygmachia. They did not compete though – they merely used it to train their men to be stronger and tougher. If they had lived today, though, they might reconsider that, seeing the success of the current boxers we have. 

The athlete competing in a hoplitodromos event is required to wear a helmet and the greaves (that is, the armor protecting the leg… just for comparison, in modern-day sports this could be similar to the shinguards) of a hoplite, or an ancient Greek city-state soldier. These athletes had to race a single lap around the stadium, much like diaulos in nature, but there are tight turns that will be difficult for them to negotiate because of an added twist. They had to carry a wooden shield that the hoplites used, so they have at least fifty pounds of weight on them plus their own body mass. Because of this, the race showed more of the strength and endurance of the athlete rather than his speed and his stamina. This was not only done in the Olympic games, but also as a military exercise to keep their soldiers fit and able. This also made their soldiers faster, because they got used to all the weight that they had to carry. Today this would only be done in the army training, and is no longer a part of the Olympics.

Of course, no aspect of Grecian life was spared by this innovation. The Greeks always wanted to make things more challenging, and so they pushed the buttons a bit. Their sports events was no exception to this rule. They considered the Stadion their greatest Olympic event, and yet, as you will find out, they still were not content with this as the pinnacle event of their Olympics. Somehow they wanted to be able to test the power of their athletes more, and so they introdued the diaulos.

There is not much to explain about the Diaulos, really. It is, in simple terms, the stadion raced twice. What happens is that the runners race the stadion as they usually would, and then at the 180-meter point, they had to go around a marker and race back to the starting line, which would also serve as their finish line. It’s more reminiscent of the party games that we have today than of the actual racing event that we have in the modern-day Olympics, but you can see how this proved even more the stamina and the speed of their athletes. It was introduced in the 14^th Ancient Olympics, and not much was known of the mechanics of the event except what is mentioned above. Still, you could imagine how this may affect the results of the race, because the added distance will wear out those who might do good with just 180 meters to run.

Of course, we all know that The Olympics were first established by the Ancient Greeks, so you can only expect that some of the events that we have included in the Olympics today have roots from the original events of the period. One event from the past that is similar to one of the events in the modern-day Olympics is the Stadion. The stadion is named after the building in Olympus in which the Ancient Olympics were being held, and is considered to be one of the major events of the Ancient Olympics. It is so important that the person who actually wins this competition is considered to be the big winner of the entire Olympics. While this is the most known and the most important event in the Ancient Olympic Games, it was also a part of a series of competitions that make up the Pentathlon, the main event of the games at the time.
